If
you liked Inkheart, you will like Inkspell. The characters
are all back. But this time, instead of the Inkheart characters visiting
our world, Moe, Maggie and the rest visit the world of Inkheart.
The book has
all the same magic as its prequel, Inkheart. In the first volume of the
trilogy, a few characters have the ability to "read" a character
out of a book and into today's world. In this book Funke reverses the
process, and throws her characters into the Inkworld. In this fantasy
world, certain readers have the power to bring characters out of books-and
send them back.
Meggie and Farid, apprentices to the fire-eater Dustfinger, follow him
to the Inkworld, the land of the book-within-a-book, Inkheart, after he
has been read back into its story by a mysterious man named Orpheus. Orpheus
uses his powers to read Mortola and Basta, some of the villains of the
first volume, into the story, along with Meggie's parents. Meggie and
Farid, discover that the wonderful world they imagined is ruled with an
iron fist by the cruel Adderhead and his gang of cruel servants. Meggie
soon finds Fenoglio, the author of Inkheart, who is now living in his
own creation. Meggie enlists the help of Fenoglio to help create a new
future for her parents and herself, as palace intrigues, war, and the
Silver Prince threaten.
This sequel is as engaging as the first book and will keep the readers
awaiting the final part of the trilogy.
