The movie version of J.K.Rowling's first novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, promises to be as exciting as the book. Directed by Chris Columbus, director of Mrs. Doubtfire, the movie stars 11-year-old Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter Raised by his uncle and aunt, the Dursleys, who ill-treat him, Harry lives a miserable life and hasn't had a birthday party till now. Harry's room is in a tiny closet under the stairs of the Dursleys home. His life takes a turn on his eleventh birthday, when Harry learns that he is the orphaned son of two powerful wizards and possesses unique magical powers. A mysterious letter arrives by an owl messenger. The letter is an invitation to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, an English boarding school for wizards. Harry, of course, accepts the invitation. It is at Hogwarts that Harry meets Hermione Granger (played by Emma Watson) and Ron Weasley (played by Rupert Grint), who become Harry's closest friends. Both Hermione and Ron possess their own special powers and help him discover the truth about his parents' mysterious death by powerful enemy forces, and they fight them. Did you know ? The movie premiered in the US and UK on 16th November 2001 and immediately entered the top spots of movie charts. Did you know?
