Joanne
Kathleen Rowling was born in Chipping Sodbury in the UK in 1965. Her
favourite subject was English. She wrote her first story at the age
of 5. After school, Jo attended the University of Exeter in Devon
where she studied French. Her parents wanted her to be a secretary
but Jo was very unorganized and not suited for the job. In 1990 at
the age of 25 Jo thought up the character of "Harry Potter" on a train
journey and completed her first novel "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's
stone" in 1993. In 1997 it was published by Bloomsbury and won the
"Nestle Smarties" award the same year. Since then JK Rowling has become
one of the most sought after author and "Harry Potter" has become
a household name. |
